What is pH?

The pH level is a numeric scale used to specify the acidity or basicity of an aqueous solution. Solutions with a pH less than 7 are acidic and solutions with a pH greater than 7 are basic. Pure water is neutral, at pH 7, being neither an acid nor a base.

Learning Objectives:

After completing this module, you will be able to:
- Explain the difference between acidic, basic, and neutral solutions on the basis of their pH value.
- Classify solutions as acidic or basic based on their pH values.
- Identify the relationship between hydronium ion concentration and pH value.
