Structure of ATP

Adenosine triphosphate (ATP) is the most abundant energy carrier molecule found in the cells of all living organisms. ATP is a nucleotide made up of an adenine base, a ribose sugar, and three phosphate groups. The energy is released from the ATP molecule when the bond between the second and third phosphate group is broken.
