Structure of Alkanes


Alkanes are hydrocarbons that contain only a single bond. All the carbon atoms in an alkane are sp3 hybridized. Hence only a sigma bond is found in alkanes. Methane is the simplest hydrocarbon with a chemical formula of CH4.
