Paramecium belongs to the genus of unicellular ciliated protozoans that is widespread in freshwater, brackish, and marine environments. They are large enough to be visible to the naked eye. Like other ciliates, they contain two nuclei, a macronucleus and a micronucleus. Other organelles found in Paramecium include a food vacuole, a contractile vacuole and an oral groove.
